Like most things, this press was started by the impulse of desire. A few friends, some ideas, and a lot of enthusiasm. We’d been reading many writers, some already published, others still unpublished, and there was the need in the air to gather together those texts, to distribute them. Alto Pogo, at least in our minds, is driven by several opposing forces. To create a book, publish it, and go out in search of readers for that particular text. Everything starts with material that makes us question something or strikes a chord. From there, the need to spread this enthusiasm that motivates us to publish, our main job. After that we work shoulder to shoulder with the writer, sometimes doing things we don’t like to do, but it’s all part of the hard work required to publish.
